The Morning Swell
03:19
|
|||
I'm giving up on my senses
Got to try to keep it disconnected
Start singing one for another
Forget myself and live for each other
Think it's time to give...
Think it's time to give...
Some forgotten organ of perception
Opens up a path to my redemption
I know life is starting over
Light and beauty shining on our shoulders
Think it's time to give...
Think it's time to give...it all away
I wish to give only love
Banish every evil from my tongue
Open all my doors to the light
Without weight I sleep through the night
Really hope this feelings gonna last
The knife cuts me clean from the past
I hope the sun will be shining
Two feet walking next to mine
Think it's time to give...
Think it's time to give...it all away

Chest of Drawers
04:04
|
|||
My chest is full of drawers, and deep inside
there's something moving back and forth
Open up what do I see but a hundred tiny boxes
under lock and key
It's an ordinary shame I'm picking apart
every little thing I say
I know its wrong but I can't help
I dig, I dig, I'm digging to find myself
Opened a box I'll tell you what was found
a little black bird, he made an awful sound
Each of his calls it had a rhyme
I raced for my pen to put em down in time
He sang it's five for silver, six for gold
You're looking for a secret, never to be told
Seven for the sorrows and eight for mirth
But in the darkness there will be a birth
Searching for my lost spool of thread
Lead me back to you, where I began
The deeper I let myself dig in
I started to feel I's wearing someone else's skin
Mother O' mother look and see
Your little baby boy what's become of me
I kept to myself every thing I'd seen
each tiny box, like a fever dream
I drove the nails and packed them in
Locked the drawers and never take them out again
Searching for my lost spool of thread
Lead me back to you, where I began

Each Thing in its Place
04:50
|
|||
Putting things back in their place
Wondering how long it might take
Wondering how long it might take
Till I lose these things again
It's the life I want to lead
So close I can hardly see
So close I can hardly see
Don't let it get away from me
I won't let you go
Each thing in it's place
Put it all on a string
So when it gets away
pull it right back to me
The only poison is my own
There's many stitches to be sewn
Many stitches to be sewn
I can't do it all alone
You forgive my greatest sins
Help me be made new again
Let it be brand new again
Every time the day begins
I won't let you go
Each thing in it's place
Put it all on a string
So when it gets away
Pull it right back to me

Mrs. Doss
03:03
|
|||
I married young and the children did come
One after one after one after one
Like a rope that frays in the sun and rain
I started smoking two packs a day
Charley came home late one night from drinking
He and I both knowing just what he's thinking
But I was not willing my head ached
Busy raising his children while he stayed away
But he gets what he wants, he gets what he wants
So he gets what he gets and he gets what I give him
I found his liquor in the back of the cupboard
So I topped it off for him
He died in the night after hours of sweating
I smiled in a chair as I thought of our wedding
He gets what he wants, he gets what he wants
So he gets what he gets and he gets what I give him

To Keep It All Spinning
04:06
|
|||
All the things you'll suffer
Oh it can't be helped
All the little light you bring, might mean
Everything to someone else
You got to give yourself away
How can I expect reprieve
without a lot of hope that someone's listening
I awoke this morning
Didn't want one minute more
I know somehow I'll put the keys in the car
Start and I'll be off just like the day before
Found a place where the streets are not marked
street lights are on but the windows are dark
A suitcase packed with suffering
I don't dare stay out I don't dare go in
You got to give yourself away
How can I expect reprieve
without a lot of hope that someone's listening
Things can happen and they often do
If you take one for me I'll take one for you
I'm not asking for your devotion
Just want someone to help keep me in motion
All the things you'll suffer
Oh it can't be helped
All the little light you bring
Might mean everything to someone else

Seven Wonders
03:41
|
|||
Seven are the wonders of your heartbeat next to mine
Isn't that the only way to lose?
Eyes like yours don't dance for everyone
In the dark they take their time to choose
Weary is the hand that guides you back to me again
Weary is the one who always waits
For you to lose your steam you're a wandering machine
But oh how I love to see you run
Oh to face the truth
I was not enough for you
And I have to agree
You were far too much for me
Seven are the things I wish I hadn't said
But who holds a hand that they can change?
Finally see a truth in the last days of my youth
I only have myself to blame

Mr. Mole Takes a Visitor
04:05
|
|||
The hands the head the skin the bones
That clothe the heart that warm the home
Some strange hearth I've made myself
A fire for one and no one else
Lie awake and through my teeth
I'm the one who doesn't see
It's so lonely underneath
You belong, you belong with me
Open up this earthen shell
Are you the one to break the spell
Take the dampers off my strings
So as one our hearts might sing

A hatchet is a hell of a blade
Takes a stone to make it shine
Who's the one in the gingham dress
What will it take to make her mine
Took a trip to Michigan
Camped along the Bissell Creek
She was there with some friends
Making it so hard to breathe
Stole a glance through the pines
What a lovely sight to see
They catch my eye and I turn away
I know they must be laughing at me
Grandpa taught me everything
Showed me how to make steel sharp
How to track a wounded doe
Showed me how to move in the dark
I got the courage to introduce myself
Asked if they'd like company
Never even met my eyes
But I'm the one who cannot see
A hatchet is a hell of a blade
Takes a stone to make it shine
Who's the one in the gingham dress
What will it take to make her mine

I want to live in a fantasy without
anyone there to forsake or to care for me
I want to live in a fantasy without
anyone there to forsake or to care for me
I'll build a fence out of briar and blackberry
to keep the wolf howl farther away from me
I'll build a fence out of briar and blackberry
to keep the wolves out
I'll climb a tree that has grown to a thousand feet
build me a home in the clouds in the canopy
There I can live like a bird just below the sun
Till my feathers turn grey and fall out and the stories done
there I can live like a bird just below the sun
till my feathers turn grey and fall out and the stories done

Bloom
03:09
|
|||
I think we're gonna do some waiting now
So let's keep our hearts settled down
Think we're gonna be waiting now
So let's keep those feet right on the ground
In the morning we can steal the light
So let's put the weight down for tonight
In the morning we'll steal the light
By tomorrow I know we'll get it right...we'll bloom
Dreamt myself back to the womb
With all the world inside
The worm that sleeps in his cocoon
But soon he cannot hide...he'll bloom
If you're not what you want to be
Hold on girl it won't be long
Till you're blooming like the poplar tree
You're a wild and lovely one
